About Me

BACKGROUND

I am a postdoctoral research associate studying extreme weather events at the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge, England. In fall 2024 I defended my PhD on Antarctic Atmospheric Rivers in the Present and Future Climates in the Synoptic Meteorology Group, in the department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at the University of Colorado. I was born and raised in Colorado, and I live in Boulder. My parents immigrated to the U.S. from Germany and South Africa, and I grew up bilingual speaking English and German. I am an only child, and growing up, I visited my grandparents in Germany often.

JOURNEY

I graduated high school in 2015 and completed my Bachelor of Arts in Atmospheric and Ocenic Sciences (summa cum laude) and Mathematics (with distinction) at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2019. I began research on snowfall over Antarctica as an undergraduate, and continued this research during my PhD, funded by a 3-year NASA FINESST research grant. During my PhD I traveled to Thwaites Glacier in Antarctica for fieldwork, which included atmospheric, oceanic, and glaciological measurements.

INTERESTS

I love exploring the mountains and spending time outdoors. Hiking is one of my favorite activities — especially a good scramble to reach the summit. In the winter, I go downhill and cross country skiing. I get overly excited when it snows and am content to sit on the couch with a cup of tea and watch the snowflakes fall past my window.
